Partners in Health and Wellness
These organizations have been very instrumental in providing guidance and support to Lead Mine Elementary to help improve the Health and Wellness culture.
- Advocates for Health in Action:
- They are a local organization that is focuses on improving the health and well-being of Wake County residents by facilitating and supporting community initiatives.
- This organization has helped our school improve our Walk to School program, Fitness Friday, provided education and training on school gardening and other health and wellness areas. They were also integral in engaging the Alliance for a Healthier Generation with Wake County Public Schools.
- Alliance for a Healthier Generation:
- They are a catalyst for children’s health. They work with schools, companies, community organizations, healthcare professionals and families to transform the conditions and systems that lead to healthier kids.
- Their goal is to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and to empower kids to develop lifelong, healthy habits. Founded by the American Heart Association and Clinton Foundation, they are collaborative change-makers working to create a nation where children thrive. They collaborate with and empower people and leaders to transform the environments that can make a difference in a child’s health: homes, schools, doctor’s offices and communities.
- Shauvon Simmons-Wright has partnered with 20 Wake County Public Schools to help improve Health and Wellness policies, practices, and provide education on six core competencies in the Healthy Schools Program Framework. She is a key partner in helping the school obtain national recognition.
- Healthtrax:
- Healthtrax is a different kind of fitness center—one that offers something for every level of exerciser. The Healthtrax fitness staff are dedicated to working with our members to achieve their fitness and long term health goals. Healthtrax is your fitness partner.
- Sandy Dorta, Membership Sales Director, is on the Health and Wellness Committee as a community partner. She and Healthtrax help provide resources to the committee and school.

- Active Routes to School: A North Carolina Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project supported by a partnership between the North Carolina Department of Transportation and North Carolina Division of Public Health. The goal of the project is to increase the number of North Carolinian's who meet the daily levels of physical activity recommended by the CDC. To achieve this, Active Routes to School seeks to increase the number of elementary and middle school students who safely walk and bike to school.

- Together Counts: Together Counts™ is a nationwide program inspiring active and healthy living. Together Counts was started by The Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, a broad-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help reduce obesity, especially
childhood obesity, by encouraging positive and permanent lifestyle
changes among school-aged children and their families.
