Programs
To help build a Health and Wellness culture, the committee runs the following programs through out the school year to help support students, staff, and families.

Fitness Friday
The Lead Mine Health and Wellness Committee's Run/Walk program for students will be back again this year! The program starts on Friday September 8th. Parents were given an option of signing a permission form at Meet the teacher, but you can also send a permission slip in to your teacher. Permission slip forms will be sent home or they can be downloaded and printed from the website.
Volunteering is easy, fun and requires only a short time commitment! Your job - Hang out on the track and keep a watchful eye while students run the track or participate in fitness activities on the field. Time - Please arrive by 7:50 am. Drop your child(ren) off with the Fitness Friday leader who will watch them until they are allowed to head to their classroom at the 8 am bell. You will then head to your assigned location to help make sure our students stay safe. Fitness Friday is over when school starts at 8:30 am. Reward - Kids who are active learn better! Your time in the morning helps them build brainpower for the school day. Remember, you must be a registered volunteer through WCPSS. Make sure you stop by the Media Center to get registered! Check the Sign Up Genius to sign up to volunteer between 7:50am and 8:30am on any of the Fridays. Want to help? Contact Elizabeth Kearse, [email protected]. |
Walk to School
Walking/biking to school helps children and adolescents reach the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Plus, research shows that active children learn better and have fewer discipline issues at school.
Lead Mine Elementary participated each year in the National Walk to School Day held in October as well as holds a few more each year to help encourage active movement of students, parents, and teachers. The school itself has a small group of students that walk to and from school each day. In addition, the committee helps advocate for Safe Routes to School with local government, the school system, and with parents in carpool to help improve the safety of students walking to and from school. This advocacy looks to improve the physical hardscape and traffic control tools available. In addition, works to help educate parents to follow the law during carpool. The law dictates that there are no left turns into the school or out of the school during carpool hours. We ask that all parents set an example for your children and obey the law! Want to help? Teacher Health and Wellness
The committee is committed to not just helping the students in our school, but start with the Teachers and Staff who are the role models our kids see most of their daily life. The committee has provided healthy snack breaks, two-week trial memberships to Healthtrax, Yoga, and many other things to help improve the health and well being of our teachers. Are you considering gift for your child's teacher? Consider something healthy!
